ByTracy Hurst March 13, 2023February 13, 2026

Located in the southern Cascade Mountains of Oregon, Crater Lake has been a popular tourist destination for hundreds of years.  But you don’t have to go alone to explore this natural wonder—Bravo Outings

Thousands of visitors flock to this incredible hot spot every year for it’s awe inspiring, serene beauty. Crater Lake was formed more than 7,700 years ago when Mount Mazama erupted in one of the most violent eruptions known to man. Afterward, the caldera collapsed and filled with rainwater, forming what is now known as Crater Lake. The lake is over 6 miles long and 5 miles wide, making it one of the deepest lakes in the United States. Its clear blue-green water reach depths of up to 1,943 feet!

Hiking trails meander through nearby forests offering spectacular views along their paths. There are also plenty of opportunities for watching birds and wildlife around the lake as well. With its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking vistas, it truly is a jewel among Oregon’s many amazing destinations. Check out the 12 Things You didn’t Know About Crater Lake.

Crater Lake’s and recreational area was established in 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt signed legislation to make it a National Park. It’s historic lodge also offers delicious dining options.
